23 October: an online meeting and lecture by prof. Jan Zalasiewicz

23 October: an online meeting and lecture by prof. Jan Zalasiewicz

After the summer break, Anthropocene PRA warmly invites those interested in cooperation to another online meeting.

The meeting will take place on 23 October and will consist of three parts:

  1. Opening lecture by professor Jan Zalasiewicz (University of Leicester), one of the major advocates of establishing the Anthropocene as a formally recognized unit of geologic timescale;  the author of such publications as “The Anthropocene: From Global Change to Planetary Stewardship,” “The New World of the Anthropocene,” and, with Mark Williams, "The Goldilocks Planet: the Four Billion Year Story of Earth’s Climate".

  2. Presentation of research by those of you who haven’t had the opportunity to do it in July. Please send us proposals of your presentations by 15 October.

  3. Information on further actions to be carried out in the PRA.

The Anthropocene PRA Executive Team have been preparing to announce three calls in the near future: Talent Management (TM), Young Labs (YL) and Open Access (OA).

TM is addressed to students and doctoral candidates. It offers funding to individual or team student projects, scholarships, research carried out as part of theses and dissertations, and student conferences.

YL is a call dedicated to young researchers within 7 years of doctorate award, in which one may apply for funding to their research (also research carried out by a team created for this purpose). The OA call offers funding to Open Access publications, including monographs, but also translations and editing (proofreading).

Other actions for bolstering JU’s standing through new recruitment and funding, e.g. actions preliminary to applying for international grants or embarking on ground-breaking research, depend largely on your own activity and needs.

You are encouraged to initiate interdisciplinary collaboration and carry out research in the Anthropocene PRA thematic scope. Thematic groups, in which we meet are intended to enable you to become familiar with related topics and to facilitate the construction of joint scientific ventures.

The initiative in no way limits you in selecting collaborators and building interdisciplinary scientific partnerships. And if you believe that in order to strengthen the implementation of this interdisciplinary research, it is necessary to hire a new employee with a specific specialisation, we invite you to discuss such needs. Calls for new positions financed in Anthropocene PRA, as well as funding for subsequent activities are scheduled for the next calendar year.

We sincerely hope to see you!
Your Coordinator + Anthropocene PRA Executive Team
