In 2019, Jagiellonian University is among the prestigious group of universities selected in the Ministry of Science and Higher Education competition "Initiative of Excellence - Research University" (IDUB).

The aim of the competition was to select and support universities that would endeavour to achieve the status of a research university and would successfully compete with the best academic centres in Europe and around the world.

All winners of the IDUB programme will receive in 2020-2026 a subsidy from the state budget increased by 10%. The programme, which at Jagiellonian University has taken the acronym ID.UJ, will enable the university to strengthen such areas as international partnerships, research grants, conducting innovative research, globalisation of science, as well as knowledge and technology transfer.
