Waters system for HPLC liquid chromatography at the Chair of Pharmaceutical Chemistry

Waters system for HPLC liquid chromatography at the Chair of Pharmaceutical Chemistry

The Chair of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Faculty of Pharmacy, Jagiellonian University MC, using funds from the qLIFE Priority Research Area within the framework of the "Excellence Initiative - Research University" programme at Jagiellonian University, purchased a Waters system for conducting determinations with the use of reversed-phase HPLC high-performance liquid chromatography.

In contrast to classical chromatography, the improvement of this system is the flow of eluent through the column under pressure, generated by pumps which are an integral part of the system. This reduces analysis time and at the same time the separation capacity is higher. The system is equipped with an autosampler for precise sample injection onto the column and a highly sensitive DAD detector, which allows the registration of successive signals from the substances separated on the column. The whole system is fully integrated and controlled by appropriate software.

Due to their great versatility, HPLC analyses have become the basis for many determinations envisaged by the Pharmacopoeia and therefore a certain standard in modern analytical laboratories. The apparatus makes it possible, among other things, to confirm identity, purity and to determine the content of medicinal substances. In the scientific activity of the Chair, however, it will be used mainly as a tool for conducting organic synthesis, serving, among others, to monitor chemical reactions, to quickly check the purity of the products obtained, as well as to assess various types of stability of compounds.

Purchase of the system was made with funding from the qLIFE Priority Research Area within the framework of the Strategic Programme “Excellence Initiative” at Jagiellonian University.
