Laboratory bioreactor F0-Baby with vertical autoclave AES-50 support the work of scientists at the Faculty of Pharmacy at JU MC
The F0-BABY bioreactor (Bionet), the purchase of which was funded by the qLIFE Priority Research Area within the "Excellence Initiative - Research University" programme at Jagiellonian University, enables the culturing of microorganisms in a working volume of up to 1.5 l. The automated control system controls the parameters for running the bioprocess, including temperature, pH and the amount of dissolved oxygen. Moreover, the bioreactor is equipped with a system to reduce foam generated during the culture and a system of pumps allowing the dosage of inoculum or supplementation with additional components necessary to achieve optimal conditions of the bioprocess. Furthermore, its modular design allows to extend the hardware and software capabilities with advanced modules compliant with the "plug and play" concept.
The bioreactor will be used for scientific purposes to obtain larger quantities of proteins obtained by recombinant DNA technology, to conduct biotransformation processes using cultures of microorganisms and biosynthesis of secondary metabolites. The use of advanced computer software to control culture parameters at different stages of microbial growth will optimise the bioprocess and increase the productivity of the strain.
The bioreactor will be used not only for research purposes, but also for teaching - during classes for students of Pharmacy and Drug Discovery and Development.
An AES-50 vertical autoclave (Raypa) was also purchased for the bioreactor, with a working volume of 50l allowing sterilisation of the bioreactor culture vessel together with a rack and all instrumentation.
The purchase was made with funding from the qLIFE Priority Research Area within the framework of the Strategic Programme “Excellence Initiative” at Jagiellonian University.
