New ergospirometry workstation at the Faculty of Health Sciences: qLIFE PRA
Purchase of new equipment financed with the resources supplied by the qLIFE PRA in the EI.JU programme.
1. Can we have a brief description of the purchased equipment? What tasks will it perform in the Faculty’s overall research activity?
In light of the increasing role of physical exercise physiology in medicine and health sciences there is a need for an extended mode of teaching this area of physiology in programmes offered by the Faculty of Health Sciences at the JU Medical College. One response to that need is the establishment of a new entity planned for near future: the Chair in Exercise Physiology, which apart from its research activity would provide student education in the area of physiology and biochemistry of physical exercise. The purchased fully equipped ergospirometry workstation is one of the essential research tools in this new entity, which will enable us to carry out comprehensive measurement of physical and chemical parameters of the patient's body during exercise. The research we have planned will allow us to determine the factors conditioning human physical endurance, among others in the process of ageing and in the course of a number of diseases, in particular metabolic and cardiovascular conditions.
2. Is it difficult to secure resources required to purchase such equipment?
The qLIFE PRA coordinating team considered the plan of launching a new research unit at the Faculty of Health Sciences with a great deal of understanding, and consequently the need to equip it with research apparatuses, and so our proposal was accepted. The pictures presented come from the manufacturer’s own materials. The renovation of the facilities that will house the new unit is still under way, but once the devices have been installed, we will post a photo coverage.
How is the cooperation with the qLIFE PRA going?
The cooperation is so good that we look forward with much confidence to the future development of research potential of the Faculty of Health Sciences, which by the way is among the strategic goals of the qLIFE PRA.
The purchase of the device has been funded from the budget of the qLIFE Priority Research Area under the Strategic Programme Excellence Initiative at the Jagiellonian University.
