Safe and reliable growth of cell cultures thanks to a new CO2 incubator - the qLIFE PRA
The Chair of Pharmacology, JU Medical College has been growing several cell cultures: endothelium, bronchial epithelium, monocytes, vessel smooth muscles, both in the form of immortalized cell lines and primary cultures isolated from test animals’ tissues. The cultures, in order to grow, need incubators.
A Heracell 150i CO2 incubator has been purchased from the funds secured in the Call #3: Repair, upgrade and retrofitting of equipment, launched in the qLife PRA under the EI.JU programme. The incubator has replaced an old unit, decomissioned as a result of a permanent failure.
A distinctive feature of the newly purchased incubator is its interior, entirely made of copper, which in addition to high durability has superb bactericidal and fungicidal qualities. The incubator will be used primarily for work with special care primary cultures, grown under projects dealing with molecular and cellular mechanisms of development of arteriosclerosis and inflammatory diseases.
The purchase of equipment has been financed from the funds of the Priority Research Area qLife under the strategic programme Excellence Initiative at the Jagiellonian University.
