Call #4: funding opportunity for interdisciplinary teams conducting research projects featuring participation of a student of the Doctoral School of Medical and Health Sciences, JUMC

Under the Strategic Programme Excellence Initiative at the Jagiellonian University (EI.JU), the Priority Research Area “Research Quality for Life Quality,” is announcing a call for funding proposals from existing or new interdisciplinary research teams working on projects within the thematic scope of the qLife PRA featuring participation of a student of the Doctoral School of Medical and Health Sciences.

The research team applying for funding shall comprise two academic teachers employed at different faculties of the Jagiellonian University Medical College, pursuing research in different disciplines, claiming research achievements including a minimum of 3 publications, of which at least one qualifies its author for the role of doctoral thesis supervisor; it shall also comprise a doctoral student of the Doctoral School of Medical and Health Sciences selected in the course of a separate call procedure. 

The applicant presents for evaluation a research project within the thematic scope of the qLife PRA, which will form the foundation for the doctoral thesis by the doctoral student member of the research team. Project description in English must contain: 

  • a clearly defined research goal justifying collaboration by the members of the mini-grant project team,
  • information explaining the innovative nature of the submitted project and its interdisciplinary implementation,
  • science in support of embarking on a new or carrying on with the current research topic,
  • concise description of the research to be carried out with a clearly delineated scope of the doctoral student’s involvement,
  • the planned scope of internationalisation (the doctoral student’s fellowships at research centres abroad, hiring foreign doctoral students or Polish citizens who are graduates of universities abroad, research collaboration between the team and research centres abroad),

The maximum duration of the projects submitted to the call is 36 months, Funding allocated for the implementation of an individual project amounts PLN 170,000. 

The financial resources awarded as funding to the project may be expended directly solely towards the education of the doctoral student at the Doctoral School of Medical and Health Sciences.

Formal eligibility check of the submitted projects is performed by a Committee comprising representatives of the qLife PRA’s Executive Team and Steering Team, the Council of the Doctoral School of Medical and Health Sciences, and the Association of Doctoral Students JU, one representative each. The evaluation of the research in the submitted projects will be carried out by external reviewers appointed by the Committee.
