Managing a modern university requires strategic thinking that does not focus on current problems and challenges, but rather develops solutions that will make it possible to respond quickly and effectively to future changes in internal and external conditions. The university should not operate on a reactive basis; it should keep reinventing itself. To this end, it is necessary to create mechanisms comprising redesigned models of university management, introducing modern methods of strategic analysis and planning (e.g. action scenarios), integrating the management levels through harmonization of the objectives of particular actions and improvement of communication processes, as well as creating organizational structures supporting strategic reflection.

This objective will be pursued, i.a, through the establishment of a special university unit: The Future University Lab – FUL, envisaged as a kind of a think-and-do tank, in which the university keeps reinventing itself.

The FUL tasks will involve:

• creating the vision of the university and indicating the directions of the future development of universities;
• developing new formats for the university’s activity in all areas (research, education, the third mission, international relations);
• monitoring and evaluation of the university's activity, expert services (reports, opinions, benchmarks, legislative proposals);
• reviewing and developing strategic plans for the development of the university.
