The DigiWorld Priority Research Area announces a competitive selection process for the post of UNIVERSITY PROFESSOR at the Faculty of Philology in the research and faculty staff member group in the field of Digital Humanities.

We are looking for candidates holding at least a doctoral degree and who in the 2 years before the opening date of the competitive selection process were not employed under an employment contract at the Jagiellonian University. 

An ideal candidate should in particular: 

  • have a track record of scientific research in digital humanities, at the interface of humanities (especially philology) and computer science, necessary for the scientific work on, amongst others, digital editions (including the conceptualisation and creation of a digital scholarly editing platform at the Jagiellonian University); these skills and methodological competences are to contribute to the development of the digital infrastructure and the dynamic growth of digital humanities at the oldest Polish university; 

  • have the ability to lead a research team and initiate scientific projects dedicated to the digitalisation and virtual sharing of cultural heritage, and to advance scholarly reflection on interdisciplinary research methods and techniques (e.g. on the evolution of digital language standards, software or designed multimedia digital environments);  

  • actively take part in academic life, in particular by presenting their research at international conferences and symposia,  

  • have a track record of interdisciplinary scientific research or cooperation with socio-economic environment, 

  • have organisational experience, in particular a track record of participating in or obtaining external, competitive research funding,  

  • participate in an ongoing international academic collaboration with leading research institutions, 

  • have experience in popularising their research or innovative education,  

  • have excellent written and oral communication skills in English. 

A successful candidate will: 

  • initiate research combining broadly understood philology and computational studies, which includes designing and setting up, in collaboration with a research team, a digital platform for scholarly editing in the area of humanities; ultimately expansion of infrastructure and constantly developing digital humanities at JU,  

  • publish articles in which JU is the only Polish affiliation in leading, high impact factor journals; present their research at international conferences of digital humanities,  

  • popularise knowledge by organizing lectures, workshops and summer schools of digital humanities,  

  • submit external Polish or international grant proposals affiliated at JU within 24 months,  

  • engage in interdisciplinary research with other members of the JU academic community  

  • deliver innovative teaching in digital humanities. 

Jagiellonian University offers: 

  • an open-ended contract, 

  • maximal full-time salary  150,000-200,000 PLN gross for the period of running a research project granted within terms and conditions of a separate agreement (the salary comprises base remuneration and pay enhancement connected to the grant and includes all components of remuneration pursuant to Regulations on Remuneration Payment at the Jagiellonian University), 

  • a research grant of 400,000 PLN to be realised for a 5-year period – within terms and conditions of a separate agreement (eligible costs include research trips and visits, research equipment, consumable materials, external services and remuneration for the project team), based on research proposal and an estimate of expenditure 

  • a possibility to hire two post-docs, apart from the mentioned sum – within terms and conditions of a separate agreement, 

  • negotiable teaching load for the period of running the research grant (pursuant to the Work Regulations of JU).
