Purchase of an electrophoretic DNA fragment selection system for the Center for Medical Genomics - OMICRON
Thanks to the funding from the qLIFE Priority Research Area within the framework of the "Excellence Initiative - Research University" Programme at Jagiellonian University, The Center for Medical Genomics – OMICRON was able to purchase an automated electrophoretic system for DNA fragment selection, called PippinHT (Sage Science).
The device allows for efficient separation and extraction of deoxyribonucleic acid fragments of selected length and enables automated separation in agarose gel.
This procedure is used during the preparation of DNA libraries for sequencing DNA at a stage when it is necessary to separate molecules of optimal length (usually 150-200 base pairs) from a pool of genomic DNA fragmented into elements of random length.
Another application is the selection of micro RNA libraries (150 bp long) from previously prepared libraries containing all small non-coding RNAs and PCR reaction by-products.
This application allows to reduce the cost of sequencing and obtain better quality reads for miRNA molecules as well.
The purchase was made with funding from the qLIFE Priority Research Area within the framework of the Strategic Programme “Excellence Initiative” at Jagiellonian University.
